The Last Demonhunter 0.3.8

-Naughty Intro update and small writing updates, enjoy! ^^
-Remastered the Druid forest and Mermaid Beach area (some graphic updates, bug and typo fixes, wrote a little moar stuff, total of 6 endings cleaned up)
-Added, but didn't yet remaster The Second Resting scene before the large forest.
-Hammered out the Demonhunter tower final fight, and its weird freeze up.
-Fixed a few more bugs, tileset issues.

Next up: Finally we'll be moving into the Old Forest of the Demonhunters. This will be a two parter due to the sheer size fo the area, and it containing 3 newly written, 3 remastered original endings before you get to the Old Tower.

  1. !Spoiler Alert!

First off, amazing new intro, I wont be skipping it as much anymore for sure.

Let us begin with the bug report, shall we?

    1.Dryad Forest:
A bit of a wall texture is showing in the dryad forest. I assume you just forgot one piece because you were in such a hurry closing off those forbidden shortcuts.

While on the topic of the Forest, the initial encounter with the Satyr is working as you described. However, when I defeated the Druid and went back it kept saying that I still had to defeat the druid, even though the b**** was running around 2 fields away from him

    2.Dryad Forest:
    After Rose left my group during the encounter with the Druid, I couldnt get her back once I defeated the druid. I actually did it without harming her (rose)... and now I miss her. Its pretty tough without that girl paralyzing enemys D;

    3. Tsukoyomi Temple:
Once you enter, refusing to be shown your room causes the game to freeze. Can't move character or open menue.

    4.Mermaid Beach:
The Urn/Jug of unending 17 Coin finds. Nuff said.
I almost expected a bad end after I "tested" it a "couple" of times in a row... but it just keeps going.

Either plug it or add sometihng like "as you reach deeper into the container you notice something sticking to your fingertips. It crawls up your arms and covers them in a sticky, glistening substance... as you reach for another handfull of coins even more of the substance covers you..."
Hell, maybe just let a little creature hide in that thing, jumping at you if you "stir around" too much.

Go on from there if you think greed should be punished.

    5.Witch in the jungle:
The small area to the south of her hut is inacessible. After the first couple of steps you cant move further because of a weird angle between a tree and a bush
The plant girl that inhabits this area also gets stuck/stopped.

    6. Visual Glitch:
Whilst trying to approach the Tsukuyomi Temple as Succubus I get zapped under an arch (holy barrier thingy) Ayla flashes for a frame as a fully formed demon with wings and red hair, then goes to standard look (blue cape, white hair) even though she should have a red cape.

    7.Greycastle City:
    Missing Data: \Data\Map113.rvdata2

This causes the game to crash, I did not delete any files.
Went into my installation folder, there is Map112, and then 114.

I even re-installed the game, and the file is still missing. I assume its for Greycastle City after the execution.

Not a bug but more a balance thingie... Is the Kraken supposed to down the whole team in 1 go with its waterclaw ?
I mean, yes it IS a gigantic vengefull avatar of the Ocean... but even when I fucked up badly enough to piss it off up at least give me a chance. Up to 1k dmg shouldn't leave enough of Ayla to transform her into its next playmate.
(Dont come at me with "its supposed to be a challenge like the General") The only way I currently see around that thing is spamming Paralyzing abilites and letting it die from one thousand cuts in a 10 minute "battle"
Obviously its supposed to be beatable, as otherwise you would have an insta game over, and not a fight.

    Another thought:
You obviously created the fuckable plant next to the jade tower for a reason. I assume you will put a couple in the old forest or even the swamp ?

Defenitley like most of the changes (I managed to find so far), Im pretty exited about getting into the forest in the next releases :D

I will stay tuned, awaiting more

    1. Let see..
I always felt like the Intro should.. rock more, you know it is the thing that sets you up for the game, after all.

      1. The shortcuts were no problem but I got lazy with the wall, w/e, fixing for V0.4. The Satyr is more of an issue. *chuckles* stupid scriting.

      2. Rose will be back with you again after the druid fight soon, but you will need a new playthrough to pick her up I fear.

      3. Ugh, I hate those. They come from movement routes I set up, or events misfiering, and are always a pita to fix. That said, so theres where the bug was, I thought I fixed it but the other report was less precise, thanks.

      4. Bah, beginners mistake on my end, fixed soon.ish. Good to know people check such details though. :p
Heh, I might use your idea, though I dun really feel it validates a full bad ending.

      5. Fixed in 0.4

      6. eh, w/e, fixed

7th.. thats.. Weird. Thats an upload or packaging issue on my or your end, can anyone else confirm this? I clearly see the map on my end, was that the version with or without rtp?

Balance: No it isn't, accidentially gave it a skill for like lvl 20 Miay, derp. Its a boss, but not an unfair boss.

For the plants errr.. why do you want more of them? I mean I could, no big deal, but.. they'd all be the same.

Hehe. glad you enjoy either way, thanks for your bug reporting, I HATE bugs, but.. each one I remove makes my game better, thats the way I have to look at it. As for the forest, I already uploaded a teaser picture somewhere on the blog, see if you can find it. :P

    2. I can confirm the missing map113 bug as well. I downloaded the 0.3.8 build without RTP.

    3. In the version without RTP too, geez.. This is so weird, welp I clearly see the map in 0.3.9s data folder, so that should fix it up.

  2. I am just as concerned with a quality game as you are. We all obviously enjoy these things.

    1.
I had the misfortune of going after the Kraken with a relative fresh troop, each of my group members had >700hp.
(usually I go after the Slime cave, then finish anything in the Jungle and swamp, then go to the tower to bring my team to lvl 9-10, THEN face the guard and their general.)

Im going to have to take your word for that ability of miay, I somehow cant seem to lvl up enough to unlock it. Cant go beyond the firewave unless I farm guards, wich is tedious

Anyways, since it IS such a strong boss meant for a high lvl group you should give people the option to fight it a their convenience. If you piss it off maybe have it tell you to leave its territory, if you return then fight it ?

(Difficult thing with open world is that you cant guarantee the correct difficulty for all of your players. Some may be simply underleveled because they skipped out on killing every enemy in their path, other the exact opposite. It doesn't help that mermaids are weak monsters (compared to some others at least), making the player think he has an easy playing field. But that is what the save button is for, right? :D)

    2.
I dont know if anyone else ever mentioned it, but when I leave the mermaid beach area I cannot walk back. Please look into this.

    3.
I actually downloaded the 3.8 build again (with rpgm), and reinstalled, Map113 still missing.

    4.
As for the plants... who ever heard of just ONE (probably corrupted) plant growing next to a tower of Demonhunters...
I assumed that there would be more somewhere in the swamp behind the tower. I would add a couple just for continuitys sake, though admitedly they don't change anything...
    for now ?

Thanks for reading all this and keep making a good game greater :D

    1. 1. Boss is not ment to be that strong. Also, obviously you can't unlock all abilities at once, game is far from done.
      2. Hmnn Weird, perhaps the tile blocks walkability. I did a thingie that should fix it.
Obviously players will have vastly different levels, theres even optional areas one can avoid entirely after all, that said, an equalizer for too underleveled players will come soon, an equalizer for players grinding too much is much more tricky, but in consideration.

      3. Then its a problem when I packaged it up, very strange, but eh, as no one else complained, I presume only the rtp is bugged, and upload for version 0.3.9 in 5 days will fix it.

      4. I might do that when I polish the game, just to make sure people dun miss the first, eh.

  3. found a bug you can only go into the beach one after that the entrance becomes a stone that you can't enter.

  4. Bug report for you.

    1. Mermaid Beach - if you leave the area upon finding it you can no longer go there as the rock that appears to mark its location prevents entry into the square. Attempting to 'speak to' or 'use' the rock also doesn't allow entry.

    2. Mermaid Beach - that Kraken! That thing packs a wallop! I realise it might be overtuned but it massacred my party members in one swipe and turned me into its loving octopi after another swipe. Might want to tone the damage down a tad unless you want it to be a sidequest that's particularly hard.

    3. Greycastle City - also got the missing file problem; however this was after me backtracking from the east to the west to gain pollen in an attempt for the altered guard ending.

    4. Greycastle City Outskirts - I've been able to skip getting Rose as a companion by not even going to the area south of the theatre. I did this by avoiding the small village west of the city (has a guard wandering round and a couple of houses) and going into the square to the right of it then directly to the bridge. Of course going east through the village map will proc the area south of the theatre. Leaving the bridge and going towards the village just makes you go to the world map rather than the theatre areas so I don't know what you might wanna do to try and fix the transistions there.

    5. Visual Glitch - Same story as reported earlier when approaching the temple as a succubus.

    6. Visual Glitch - As a succubus you can change your appearance into a mortal but I found that you can't change back using the same spell (or is there another one to bring out your inner demon that you learn as you level).

    7. Visual Glitch - when you get to the first camp with Miay after the tower to shows the images of the characters on the screen but they don't disappear upon the conversations conclusion but will after you speak to Miay again.

    8. Visual Glitch - when I did the slime girl ending (I like slimes :)) the slime girl Ayla picture appeared but so did one of her human faces and her armor unfortunately covering up most of the picture! Might want to look into that one xD

    That's all from me!

Look forward to next boat of content and the fixes as they come!

    1. I'll skip over things alreaedy reported.

      4. If you wanna try that hard to avoid a companion and bug out the game, be my guest. I set it up so that anyone playing normally wont have the bug.

      7. Fixed in the future.

      8. Same, but need the guy doing the portrait guys to tinker on things first.

Next boat this saturday, as usual, fixing bugs from the last, (not this) version and associated reports.
